More from Kitchen Kwento

Food Stories from Filipino/American history month, Kitchen Kwento (Aileen Suzara). Speaking of which, my mother’s recipe for Boche (or Buchi), sweet, deep fried balls of sweet potato and rice flour:

. This is from her ancient recipe notebook, which I saved after she passed away. Good luck interpreting the recipe! It doesn’t tell you what to do with the ingredients. But basically you shape the dough into small balls, deep fry them, roll them in sesame seeds.

Her recipe admittedly is a bit off-the-cuff. Here’s another one found online.

  1. I adore buchi! They are irresistable. And I love that you have the original handwritten recipe. This is a treasure.
