Exhibit Countdown

My Local Nomad writings have lessened somewhat, because of the intensive work I’m doing on the “Filipino Voices” exhibit at the National Steinbeck Center, where I’m guest curating. If you’d like to read my exhibit diary, I’m posting it on my Commonwealth Cafe blog.

  1. Hi, Jean,

I am so glad to hear about the Filipino exhibit. I envy you the fun you are having putting it together. I’m second generation. My dad and uncle were among the generation of young Filipino men who migrated in the late 1920s for opportunities in Hawaii and on the mainland. If it weren’t for the Pilipino Studies at SF State during the early 70s, I wouldn’t have begun to learn about the richness of our heritage in the U.S. Thank you!

Thanks for your comment. Yes, Pilipino Studies at SF State has been a great source of teachers and disseminators of our history!
