Geisha Japanese Restaurant in Capitola — It’s Sustainable!

I’m way overdue for my latest food porn photos. Here are two from Geisha Japanese Restaurant and Tea House in Capitola, which I wholeheartedly recommend: great (fresh) food and service, and good (sustainable) food ethics. Located on the second floor with a view of Capitola Village, we got to do some people-watching as we waited.

A good cup of kukicha, and a bowl of miso soup, as we wait for the entrees.

Note the sardine nigiri (middle of the tray) above. Terrific and unusual. We ordered it earlier than the other items, because it requires some careful deboning. I picked the brown rice option for my sushi.

dinner at Bernice’s

…means it’s film night with poets Bernice Rendrick and Joan Zimmerman, and Bernice’s daughter, Rebecca. Bernice and Rebecca are excellent cooks. Once again, I am lucky in having good friends who happen to be wonderful cooks.

film night at bernice's
We had home made minestrone soup, cole slaw with raisins and mint, champagne (to toast my new Ph.D.), spicy tortilla chips and dip, and (not seen here) ice cream.

The film? Patrik, age 1.5, a Swedish film about a gay couple that adopts a young boy, directed by Ella Lemhagen.
